As a Certified Addictions Counselor since 2012, my work has centered on helping individuals break through the barriers that keep them from living healthy, fulfilling lives. Over the years, I’ve supported clients in understanding the disease of addiction and developing personalized treatment plans that address anger management, emotional regulation, impulse control, social skills, coping strategies, and long‑term recovery.

 

Through this work, I’ve also witnessed how cultural experiences, trauma, and patterns of abuse can shape the lives of African American men in ways that are often overlooked in traditional clinical training. This insight is what led me to pursue my doctoral dissertation, which focuses on how therapists recognize and respond to signs of abuse within the African American male population.

 

My goal is to better understand the biases, gaps, and challenges that may influence therapeutic decision‑making—so that we, as mental‑health professionals, can provide more effective, culturally responsive care.
